Calming winds provide new dynamics on the water
Unfortunately, the weather did not always play along. Two races had to be cancelled the next day due to a lack of wind. This caused a lot of displeasure among the sailors, however brought new dynamics into play. As a result, three other races could still be completed once the windward side shifted. In the early evening Franzi returned to land, tired and exhausted, but filled with happiness from being out on the water all day.
On Saturday there were superior sailing conditions - a perfect "last rehearsal" before the grand finale on Sunday.
The finale on Lake Garda
On Sunday, Carlo de Paoli from Italy won with a constant streak against England’s Eddie Bridle, who had to forfeit the previous day due to material problems. Franzi’s brother Max secured fifth place, giving him the best ranking among the German team. Franzi finished in 20th place out of a total of 47 moth sailors. “I am still satisfied because I delivered a constant performance up until the last day and also improved on my strong wind execution.” she commented about the final results.
New challenges
For Franziska Mäge, it was a great week with many hours on the water. Even with the severely restricted sailing season in 2020 due to Covid-19, she is still looking forward to the future and hopeful for many more competitions and new challenges. Taking on and overcoming challenges is just as much fun for Franzi as it is for BMK employees with their enthusiasm for electronics. #BMKdelta
